Job Description

Tottenham Hotspur is a world famous football club based in North London. Off the pitch, the Club has a strong and successful business model centred around building a platform for long-term success, which includes a new, state of the art stadium which opened in 2019.

The Club operates out of multiple sites, including a world class Training Centre in Enfield where the vacant position of Academy Physiotherapist is based. The position will report to the Lead Academy Physiotherapist and will work within a team of physiotherapists, sports scientists and medics.

The successful candidate will work as part of the medical team for clinic work and deliver match coverage at all home and away matches for Academy players. They will work alongside Academy coaching staff to support the player development process.

Due to the nature of the business, the position will entail working irregular hours (e.g. evenings / Saturdays / Sundays / Bank Holidays), home and away matches, as well as domestic and international tournaments, so a flexible, reliable and committed candidate is sought.

To deliver high quality, paediatric focused sports performance physiotherapy to Academy players, complementing the Academy Sports Medicine and Sports Science departments to provide the best possible service to players. To support the coaching staff with the Player Development process.

• Undertake the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of Academy players.
• Lead injury prevention, screening, interventions and education of players.
• Keep detailed and accurate records of injuries and treatment.
• Uphold Club, Medical Department, health & safety, ethics and safeguarding protocols, acting as a role model to players and staff alike and reflecting the Club’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people (under 18s).
• Employ awareness of welfare issues, handling all matters with the utmost professionalism, diplomacy and sensitivity.
• Attend refresher and development training when necessary, e.g. safeguarding, health & safety and trauma training.
• Be aware of emergency procedures and the Health & Safety at Work Act relating to the various sites.
• Communicate effectively with all key stakeholders, to include other Academy and Medical staff, players and parents and staff.
• Organise appropriate cover and casual staff as required.

• Qualified chartered physiotherapist with HCPC registration, preferably with post-graduate qualifications
• An outstanding academic and applied knowledge of contemporary practice in physiotherapy and rehabilitation with the ability to seek out and apply evidence based best practice.
• Previous experience of working within an MDT
• Recognition of and ability to provide evidence based best practice
• A strong background in delivering specific sport rehabilitation and conditioning.
• Experience in working with elite youth athletes is desirable.

• A BSc or MSc degree level qualification in Physiotherapy
• 2 years post graduate experience in a variety of settings
• HCPC Registered
• Experience of working within a high-performance team and a clear understanding of the successful development of young athletes
• An extensive and up to date CPD portfolio.

Essential criteria
• Experience of working in a full time environment with elite level athletes
• Be a good role model for staff and players in the elite sport environment in terms of knowledge, behaviour and development
• Experience in working within a physiotherapy team to maximise player care
• Maintain high professional standards at all time and conform to expected behaviours in terms of clinical practice and confidentiality
• Be willing and able to travel away from home including to international tours and tournaments
• Demonstrable good work ethic and high output

Desirable criteria
• Experience of working within a Football Academy
• Current ATMIFF qualification
